Can the terms “pain” and “discomfort” truly be used interchangeably or should they be viewed as distinct patient needs?
Does each one merit as aggressive treatment as the other?
What might a patient be experiencing when discomfort is reported rather than pain?
How does the registered nurse address physical, psycho/social/spiritual, and environmental needs when developing patient centered plans of care to treat pain and discomfort?
