create an atmosphere of debate and discovery that eventually led to the ideas of democracy.

John Calvin (1509-1564) was a French Reformer who taught about predestination and the "Elect" of God. He advocated the "Five Solas" - Protestant statements of belief that were contrary to the ideas and practices of the Catholic Church. These ideas helped to break the power of the Catholic Church and create an atmosphere of debate and discovery that eventually led to the ideas of democracy.

In your own words, what does each sola say? How is each one different from the Catholic beliefs? How did the Five Solas help to break the power of the Catholic Church during the Reformation?
